Got a bag full of clothes, a bottle of wine. Only say how I feel From the back of my mind
Everest doesn’t remember the exact moment instinct took over, only that by the time Isla’s lips moved with his, all thought had dropped away like old scaffolding. There was no calculating the angle, no mental tally of time elapsed. Just heat. Just her. The taste of her mouth sweetened by berries and wine, the press of her body against his like a memory returning to itself.

His fingers flex in her hair reverently. His other hand finds her hip and stays there, not pulling, not yet—just there, as if to mark that this is real. And it is. She’s not a recollection or a wish. She’s here, and she wants him, and his body knows it before his mind can.

When she draws back, he blinks like someone surfacing from depth, his breath catching in the space between their mouths. She looks flushed and radiant and just slightly smug and Ever’s certain his own face is flushed for entirely different reasons. He’s...surprised. And maybe a little dazed. But certainly not unhappy.

His fingers remain at her waist, not quite letting her go.

"I didn’t pack anything perishable," he murmurs, voice low and dry with the hint of a smile twitching at the corner of his mouth. "Nothing that can’t handle being unattended in the heat." His thumb rubs softly against her side. "So if you wanted to... continue," a glance at her mouth again, then her eyes, "The food wouldn't suffer for it."
