Wrinkling his nose at the vague scent of burning hair and flesh and the sound of what could very well be Mort tip-toeing across the land to collect Kaisel's soul, he only raises his eyebrows at the words that do make it past the boy's lips.

Jack doesn't stop his retreat. He does watch it, though, memorising every spill of sand and kiss of air as the spirit bears Kaisel on his way, the captain's head tilting to the side. "Mm, Safrin'd eat you alive," he confirms, long after he's out of sight.
Slipping on his rings and taking to the path back towards the sea, he can't help but scoff under his breath. "Flora would too, prob'ly."
