If Jack didn't know better he'd also suspect he was having fun, but of course surly captains never admit to such things, and so instead he keeps his attention on the lesson at hand. Though perhaps the ghost of a smile does curl across his lips in response to Nova's thoroughly dazzling grin, one that's quickly covered by her fists as she brings them up again.

"That's good," he remarks as her endless energy automatically has her bouncing on the balls of her feet. "Don't blow off too much steam with movin' - you might need it for later. But step light, and not too much in the same spot."

This time, of course, Jack is already moving as Nova throws the punch; a little unfair considering he'd been directing her at the same place for the past two attempts, but at least she can get used to a moving target. His sidestep takes him around to her exposed side, Jack acting as if he's going to jab her in the ribs, though his knuckles barely graze her.

"You ever played chess?" He raises his eyebrows. "It's sorta like that. Keep thinkin' a few steps ahead. Again, c'mon." He gestures for her to keep going.
