Whatever he decides to do, he’ll do it with his whole chest—and he won’t look back and second-guess it, not even for a moment. That’s what men like him do. They don’t dither. They just decide." As for her attempt to console him, he snorts. The sound is not unkind—just dry. Tired. "Would you mind putting that on a magnet? With she and Mateo inside, we thought we'd finally be back in the fight." He drags a hand through his curls and glances out at the undergrowth. "But of course she didn’t.
