JACK
Pointedly ignoring the ease with which Flora is able to interact with his crew, or the way he can practically sense her step and gait adjust to being back on the deck of his ship, Jack straightens from the barrel after taking a drink through clean, cupped hands and sweeps his wet fingers through his hair to cool off. Every second of her being aboard feels like a sign of her having gotten too close, too comfortable, only for it to go belly-up in the worst possible way. (That way being a rather predictable one, in hindsight). But gods if even the ship herself doesn't seem happy to have her.
"Patrol the Arclight," he says slowly, before huffing out a breath that might as well be a laugh. Especially when it comes to the very obvious farewell written in plain text, nestled within an invitation to dinner. "Providin' he ain't trapped down there, you've got one helluva dinner date to look forward to," he mutters, before taking a breath and launching into the explanation of their trip into the island's belly.
He takes Flora through the Descent and into the Crush, the webbing, the parallel tunnels, the Mirewyrm and the Webvex. The tunnel quaking, Sah's stabilisation. The spider's death and the failed attempt to bait the wyrm back with it. "With no way to get the thing to come back an' it tryin' to bring the tunnel down on us every few seconds, I wanted to plant the rose and fuck off outta dodge. Not your Tidebreaker, though."
And here Jack's quiet anger is clear in the still raw irritation that lines his face, regardless of how he attempts to mask it. "Never realised he was such a manipulative shit. I'd have been impressed if he weren't tryin' to convince me to stick around an' be buried alive just as a point of pride." Rest assured, after this he's coming to see Hadama in a much more sinister light. "Convinced Sah an' Noah to stay, by the look of it. I waited for 'em, long as I could, but..." He shrugs. "They're still back there."
