"Me?" he echoes, his voice a muffled whisper, his eyes closed as if to try and stop the silent, relieved tears that he can't seem to get under control. "What are you thanking me for?" If he thought he could manage a laugh he might have tried it. But it's about all he can do to stand here with Asta and just breathe, his fingers tracing the roadmap of scar tissue on the other man's back and shoulders, his body slowly thawing out in the butcher's arms.
"It'll be okay," he adds in a rough whisper.
