It helped that Theea was easy to like - and very clearly not trying to injure the Luminary. Soh grinned in response to Theea's joking. "Okay, but only if we're in it together."
She placed the rag back on her eye. It really wasn't that bad. No doubt the swelling would go down, and the bruise would fade, and this would become a funny story to tell Flora next time they saw her.

"Auden was steady," she said, her voice faraway. "They were always putting me first, even if I didn't realize it at the time. And they taught me that actions speak louder than words." Auden had never been the affectionate sort - rather grumpy, in fact - but they had always shown Sohalia what she'd meant to them. "I've always tried to remember that. I haven't always succeeded, but the way you treat people... that's what sticks, you know?"
