VESPER
Vesper basks in her joy like it’s sunlight—warm and loud and glittering at the edges. Her laughter rings through his head even before it hits his ears, her delight spilling across the bond they share like a sky full of fireworks yet to go off. For a moment, he lets himself soak in it—her thrill, her trust, the easy way she gives herself to the moment.
He huffs a quiet laugh, rolling his eyes just enough for effect when she teases him. "Wings, huh?" he drawls, still catching his breath. "Sure, I’ll get right on that. Maybe next time I fall outta the sky, you can catch me."
Carefully, he sets her down, letting her sparkle settle like dust on his sleeves. She’s weightless, always has been, but even so he takes an extra beat before letting go. One hand slips gently into her hair and he presses a kiss to the crown of her head, grounding them both with that small, steady gesture. Then he straightens, glancing out across the arena with a wry glint in his eye. "Come on, you. Let’s go see how everyone else did."
