Noah took a slow breath, steadying himself as the cold air seared his lungs. He gave a firm nod to his warden and stepped across the practice field. He turned, then, to face Deimos again. He extended one hand, fingers splayed, and summoned the celestial shield. Light shimmered into shape, all brilliant and radiant, forming around him like a second skin. The celestial light swept around him and moved gently. For any onlookers who chose to pause and watch, it might even be beautiful. All you wanted I could be
He knew Deimos understood what he was asking for and didn’t want it to hold—he wanted to test its edges. He wanted to see what assault would make it crack and dissipate, to disappear under the strength of the Sword.
He widened his stance, grounding his weight. The demigod tucked his chin, bracing for impact, and gave Deimos the signal to begin.
If it cracked, so be it—he needed to know where.
