Alys’s illusions worked again, confusing the few remaining members of the herd until it was down to just the angry colt. Was it worth using illusions any longer, when it was now four against one? Perhaps she should just use her air magic, spear a wedge towards the colt in an attempt to finish it, just as Hadama had instructed -
But then Vesper was sending some accusatory words towards the Tidebreaker, and Alys sent the younger demigod a reproachful glance. It wasn’t like Hadama had been hanging back, watching the fight from afar; he’d been in it with them, had even sustained his own injuries. But this was not an argument that she wanted any part in, so instead, she shook her head and focused on her illusions, strengthening them and beginning to make them move around, in an effort to disorient the colt.
