As long as you say you are mine
Everything that came out of Flora's mouth was so uniquely, perfectly her, and Soh joined her friend in laughter that sent the gulls overhead wheeling away. "Okay, that's all kind of perfect," she admitted, still giggling. Then, softening, because she felt almost like she knew Enzo from all Flora had shared about her twin: "I think Enzo will like it."
But the tone shifted quickly, and Soh remained hesitant to share what was clearly going to be an agonizing ordeal for Flora. Hearing what she had to say about Kai had her mouth tightening with anger, because it was so much worse than she'd initially understood or imagined. "Okay. I'll tell you everything I know. But Flora..." She stopped walking, pulling Flora to a halt, gently turning her best friend to face her. "You need to know that you deserve someone who will actually do all those things. That can give you more than pretty words and empty promises." She lifted her hands to cradle Flora's face, firmly drawing the Doubletake's gaze to her own. "You are the sun, Flora. The star that the rest of us can only hope to orbit around. Don't let someone else eclipse your light."
Soh dropped her hands, clearing her throat against the sudden lump that threatened. Silver eyes, tumultuous with something almost like guilt, flickered out to the distant horizon line. "So, after Kai came to see you in King's End, he sent me a letter asking me to meet up because he was worried about you. And like, basically the entire conversation was about him wanting to be your friend but also be with Caly, and when I tried to tell him that it might not be that simple, he didn't get it. But he was like... insistent that he was going to still be your friend, but also said that he didn't think he could be what you need right now, so he wanted me to be there for you instead. Which... isn't very friend-like, if you ask me." Despite her best efforts to keep her tone neutral, there was a biting contempt to it that Soh struggled to keep under wraps.
