Vesper’s brows climb at the flash of Nova's tongue, a dry snort slipping out before he tilts his head in mock warning. "Careful," he drawls, letting the corner of his mouth curl, "Or I'll use my shadows to keep it like that."
He clears his throat, rolling his shoulders as the space between them hums with her anticipation. If it’s cheating to know the exact second she’ll move, he’s never been one to play fair; her thoughts are loud enough to map each beat before it lands. The moment her magic coils, his own rises; starlight spilling into a curved plane before him just a breath before the flames would have kissed his chest. The heat licks harmlessly across its surface, sparks scattering off into the clearing.
"Not bad,”" he says, smirk deepening, and then he’s gone in a swirl of shadow and light, reappearing twenty feet to her right with a casualness that makes the distance look like nothing. "Again."
