Haters on my back like a backpack
Step one of taming his future dragon, which is definitely on his to do list now, is to learn how to get on them a little more gracefully. Actually, that sounds like maybe it should be step 10, after the actual taming part happens, but it's definitely high up there on the list. It's not shame, not exactly, he's way too pumped to feel anything so dimming right now, but it is most certainly negative aura to be shuffled onto her back by her tail. It's okay, his first time riding a girl went about as smoothly and he did get better at that.
Sliding over the scales easily as she sets him in place, he wiggles into the most comfortable bend of her neck and shoulders that he can find. He grabs hold of a nearby spiny ridge, and just as he's got it wrapped up in his fingers he's forced to cinch down, legs pinching against her as she pitches back and forth. "WHOOOOOOA!" he yells out, although it sounds more like "Whh000oooOOOOoo0aa" because his voice hiccups in and out with the force of the motion. The rumble of her amusement under him is unmistakable, and he chuckles loudly with it.
Breathless and still feeling like he's wearing googly eyes, she takes that as the signal to go. He becomes a pancake. Every part of him is flattened against her, and even if he'd wanted to sit up right now, the force of the wind driving around her as she rises is uncooperative at best. It feels a bit like the spinny UFO ride at the fair, except this should result in less vomit.
Through all the oh shit though, there is an incomparable oh, shit to rising into the air on something that isn't a ship. The underlying fear also makes the wonder that much sweeter, sharpened with the success of living as much as the beauty of the night sky leaning in closer. "Charlie!" he yells over the wind of her wings, the sound of his voice more like a laugh with the happy lilt carrying it. "This is THE BEST!" With too many heavy days as of late and all the troubles he's tied himself up in, it's nice to feel a little weightless and out of reach from everything.
