'Cause I don't remember who I was before you
The rain continued. Everything and everyone became coated in a layer of mud. Hair was plastered to foreheads and necks, clothes stuck to skin, and the conditions as thunder rolled overhead were downright miserable. Even the donkeys pulling the wagons seemed to be over it, their tails lashing and their ears pinned as they plodded ever onward with their lightening loads of flowers.
Colt andLena did their best, poking holes into the ground and sticking their roses in, hoping that the flowers would stay upright. Unfortunately, the muddy ground was not quite strong enough to hold the stems in place, and they would find that their efforts were largely in vain. For each rose that remained upright, three more fell over, and they would need to redo their work before moving on.
Sunjata and Alys fared better, in large part thanks to Sunjata’s magic. The ‘umbrella’ that he created worked well to shelter them from the worst of the downpour, and they continued to dig and plant at a steady pace.
After all was said and done, the teams were neck and neck. Colt and Lena had moved farther, even with their setbacks, but Sunjata and Alys were moving more quickly through the rain and mud. They were threatening to overtake the others with their efforts, although the rain was now so heavy that the teams were well out of eyesight and hearing distance from one another. Now that they were on the final stretch, it simply remained to press onwards.
