Charlie groans dramatically at the shout, the sound rolling out of her like the world’s largest ugh. Every scale under him vibrates with her reluctance, like she might just ignore him and keep on screaming through the sky forever. But for all her fire and trickery, she’s not a captor. If her rider wants down, she’ll give it—just not without milking the moment.
So instead of diving, she spreads her wings wide and catches the air in the laziest glide imaginable. The stars stretch above them like spilled jewels, and she holds them there as long as she can, coasting and humming with adoring satisfaction. Only when the night has soaked itself into Kaisel's bones as much as she can make it, does she crack open her jaws and breathe out one last blaze of fire, this time curling in the perfect, ridiculous shape of a heart before tumbling toward the earth.
The descent comes at last, smooth but indulgent, her great wings cupping the air so that the wind whips and billows without ever quite stealing his breath. When she touches down, dust explodes around them in a wild dance before her talons fold in and she bows low enough for him to slip free.
Scales ripple, and in a flash she’s herself again; petite and golden, tail flicking like a cat who’s just brought home a prize. She beams up at him, bright blue eyes glittering. "Fun, right??" she sings, sunshine grin spread so wide it threatens to split her face. The fact she’s still completely naked, fire-bands long forgotten, doesn’t bother her in the slightest; she radiates the sort of delight that makes modesty feel irrelevant.
