Even with Nova's thoughts bright and loud in his head, the shift in magic coming clear before she even moves, the sudden chill beneath his boots still catches him off guard. Frost spiders out fast, slick and unyielding, locking him in place just as his balance threatens to slip. Had the ice not gripped him, he might’ve gone sprawling; a thought that earns her a quiet snort under his breath, half irritation, half reluctant admiration.
"Well played," he admits, dry as ever but tinged with something that sounds like genuine approval. The words linger only a moment before the shadows close around him again, his form unraveling into mist and starlight. He reappears directly in front of her, close enough for the residual warmth of the Eye of Fire to paint sharp edges across his smirk.
"Now," he says, voice low, almost daring, "let’s see if you can hit a moving target." With that, he slips away again, vanishing and reappearing five feet to the side, then again, and again; each misty step placing him in a new position, the rhythm steady enough that she’s got something to aim for, but just erratic enough to keep her chasing.
