With it vanishing, it’s left limp in his hand, he watches as she shakes and when she speaks finally, without the broken hearted sorrow and rage he’d witnessed in her before, the butcher exhales the breath he’s been holding like a lifeline.
“You were infected.” He offers quietly, stepping away to give her some space, his tail flicking at his heels as if he’s still uncertain whether or not to help her finish packing or to find a chair so that he may be able to explain. Instead, the butcher is left in a limbo of uncertainty, waiting for her to come to grips with it.
