"I just--" Jack's tone comes out sharper than he intends, his jaw feathering as if to clamp down on the inevitable that always leads them to the same fights, the same hurt, the same impossible outcome. Breathing in a steady breath and forcing it out, he tries again. "I just said you could take as long as you needed. I was... I shouldn't have asked you to decide straight away." And gods, the admissions are as foreign as the feelings curling low in his gut, the captain pressing his eyes shut to drag together his senses.
