Maea
I am out with lanterns
The moment her friend stumbled and fell, the fire vanished with a forlorn sputter. "Are you alright?" Maea asked, worried that she had overdone it. "We can stop - I shouldn't have asked this of you when you're not used to fighting with magic."
Closing the distance between them, Maea reached out to help her up. A sinking feeling turned her pale complexion ashen and rendered her limbs into water; useless, incapable of anything but doing harm to those around her. Or herself. It was the same thing over and over again, of not knowing how to listen, how to read between the lines, when to quit –
It was Asta all over again, the memories of the hurt she'd caused him sharp as broken glass, layered over Lena's frightened face and the residual wrath and angst in Noah's eyes as he gazed down upon her, bloodstained and dazed where she lay within the healing fountain. Mending from wounds that could have been avoided, had she only listened better.

Looking for myself
