if you try and chase the sun you're never gonna catch it
Vesper listens without interrupting, catching both what they let spill past their lips and what they don’t. Caly’s fire burns hot and jagged, Nova’s chill storm steeled into loyalty and sharp edges—but under it all, he feels the same knot tightening in both of them. He nods once, slow, conceding the point. "Avoidin’ her probably will be impossible." He pulls in a breath through his teeth, then lifts his hands in a loose warding gesture before either of them can cut him down for what comes next. "But listen—I don’t actually know if they’re together. Probably are," he adds dryly, mouth twisting in the shadow of a smirk, "but before we pack our bags, might be smart to figure that out for sure." Certainly that's what Jack's mind seemed to think, but in the maelstrom of it, Vesper hadn't actually seen the proof of it.
His hand drags back through pale hair, the rings on his fingers catching the light as his gaze flicks between them. "Jack ain’t keen to talk about it, so if you ask him, you’ll get more than your heads bit off." His brows lift in sharp warning, tone leaving no doubt he means it.
Then he looks to Nova, smirk deepening into something colder, sharper. "Could always hit ‘em where it hurts, though. We’ve got the keys to the guild sittin’ out back. Be a real shame if it got emptied of everythin’ inside." He lets the thought hang, heavy with implication, then tips his head, constellation freckles catching in the lamplight. "And Kaisel—well. No doubt we could figure out where he’s stayin’ and make it a nightmare." He seemed the type to already jump at shadows.
Vesper's shoulders settle back against the bar, arms folding, eyes bright with the kind of mischief that’s dangerous when it’s born from anger before he turns to look at Caly. "Lotta that depends on you, though, Cal."

And now it's turning out to be the worst of my bad habits
