Charlie doesn’t mind the coin-scooping in the slightest; her attention is already drifting toward the way the crowd breaks apart, laughter and whispers chasing after her flames. When Kaisel holds out the handful, she peers into his palm like she’s inspecting a treasure chest, plucks the shiniest coin from the lot, and pockets it with a satisfied hum.
Her expression morphs comically as he mentions shopping for his girlfriend—eyes wide, mouth forming a round little oh! of surprise—but before she can ask the very obvious follow-ups, his hand closes around hers and she’s being pulled through the press of the crowd. She follows easily, weightless on her impossible heels, her grip warm from the lingering heat of her flames.
By the time they’re swallowed by the rhythm of the marketplace again, Charlie’s grin has returned, all sunshine and fangs. She nods solemnly when he identifies her as a woman. "Good memory," she teases lightly, tail flicking behind her in a lazy wag.
She glances up at him over her shoulder, curls bouncing as she tilts her head. "Soooooooo, tell me—what does this girlfriend of yours like? And are we talking practical bag or going-out-to-turn-heads bag?"
