The suggestion might have been simple and obvious, but that's who Zavien is. He doesn't understand the games and avoidance, preferring openness and honesty in everything he does, and as complicated as the process of telling Koa might be - finding him, breaking the news, etc. - sometimes breaking it down in the most basic of terms makes it feel less daunting. Based on Kai's reaction, he gathers this isn't one of those cases.
He grips the edge of the bench, caution in his tone as he lets the anger roll off him. "I think you're taking your frustrations out on the wrong people." Unwilling to be a punching bag for his poor emotional regulation, Zavien stands, ready to remove himself from the situation entirely. It's only when the heat begins to cool that he eases the tension he holds tight, the grip of his fists loosening at his side but not relaxed.
Sol watches attentively to the shift, the cross of Zavien's arms when he's met with the sharp accusation in Kai's question. His eyes narrow despite the softening of his voice, willing the confrontation to cool so he could focus on what's important. "Not recently." The truth is that he hadn't even had the chance to properly tell his friend about his new role as Commander, missing the opportunity to pull him into the council from the beginning. It's enough to worry him with the new revelations, wondering if he'd been neglecting friends again.
Obviously worried, he shakes his head again. "I thought it was just work keeping him busy but..." His silence says more than the words he might have said, but he doesn't torture Kai with more guilt, looking away through the steam like his friend might be sitting on the other side, hurting, alone. "Maybe he just needs some space. It's not like he can stay angry forever." There's a shift, a wish to smile and give the young man hope, but Zavien honestly doesn't know how long or if Koa will be able to forgive him. They'd never talked in depth about his relationship with Flora, and yet he knows enough to understand that having his cousin succeed where he'd been rejected would be a betrayal of ultimate proportions. There's no telling what kind of space, time, or reparations he might need to consider repairing the relationship.
