Noah felt the pull of hands gripping deep into his fur, the sharp brace of a knee digging in for leverage as Damien hauled aboard. An arm slid across the thick column of the bear’s neck and the intent behind it--whatever it was--earned a flare of instinctive response.
The bear’s growl vibrated through the yard, low and rolling like thunder across the tundra. His spine arched, shoulders bunching with coiled strength as he twisted hard, forcing his body into a sudden, violent turn. He ducked his massive head low beneath his arm and then snapped it back, jaws opening wide. Snow scattered beneath his shifting weight as he angled for Damien’s leg, the one braced tight against his ribs. His teeth bared to clamp, to seize and rip Damien’s stability right out from under him.
The bear lunged sideways into the motion, jaws seeking flesh and fabric with a precision that spoke of countless hunts on ice. When his teeth found purchase, Noah would yank hard, using nothing but raw neck and shoulder power to sling Damien off his back and into the ground mized with snow and stone.
