Surprise encases the black dragon immediately once he’s finished his shift, a low rumble and a snort escaping him as he flexes wings he’s never had before and swings his head around to see if he can get a look at himself. Sharp jagged teeth break up portions of his maw, and the gnarled scars of his human form appear in the plate armor on his chest and back in the form of darker, devastating cracks.
And only when he’s realized just what he is, does he on that orange gaze back at his lover — so small in comparison to the rest of his shifts and what he’s used to, to offer a snort of amusement, shock, and absolute awe.
