The rest of the night unfurls in a blur of laughter and glittering temptation. Charlie takes to the task of corrupting Sohalia with all the dedication of a priestess to her calling, which, in a way, she is. Drinks appear in their hands as if conjured, their little umbrellas wilting in the humid heat while they twirl through the sand, barefoot and brilliant beneath the flicker of firelight.
Together they bait a handful of handsome, sunburned men with the promise of attention, all wide smiles and teasing glances until the poor souls are leaning in, and then the girls are gone, cackling as they vanish into the dark.
Moments later, the night splits with the rush of wings. Charlie’s laughter echoes across the shoreline as she takes to the sky in her dragon form, scales gleaming like molten gold, Sohalia clinging to her back and shouting her delight into the wind. Below them, the bonfires shrink to pinpricks of orange and violet, and the two of them rise into the LongNight sky; wild, bright, and beautifully untamed.
