Marcus pushed through the palace doors with a little more force than necessary, the warm air spilling out behind him as he stepped into Halo’s bite once more. His breath fogged instantly, curling around the irritation already tightening his jaw. Frost crunched under his boots as he descended the steps, muttering under his breath.
“I’m not a damn courier,” he grumbled, tugging his cloak tighter. He’d dropped off the requested supplies like he had nothing better to do than run errands through the Citadel’s maze of polished hallways. Morgot and Ravenna had asked, sure, and Marcus wasn’t about to argue with that combination of women, but still. He wasn’t built for delivering scrolls and parcels like some messenger kid.
The palace guards pretended not to hear his muttering; he pretended not to see their smirks. He’d probably complain all the way back to the Greenwing—and yet still do whatever was needed the next time someone asked—but something else caught his attention. A flash of movement and a vaguely familiar glint in the smile the child gave stopped him in his tracks, and only did the calculations solidify as Belial burst through another bought of snow. "Erebos?"
