Given that Jack had lived his entire relationship with Flora and that little accessory, perhaps he doesn't give it the appropriate weight, but as Vesper flinches and the Captain glances across to see true horror in his expression, he's inclined for the first time to reconsider. "Yeah," he says, huffing out a breath that tries and fails to be a laugh. "She can't lie to me, why should I get to lie to her, y'know? Seemed like a fair deal at the time, except y'know... she could always take it off if she didn't wanna hear a hard truth."
Scoffing and shifting enough to glance back at the demigod as he slouches enough to gaze up at the cabin ceiling, Jack shrugs a bit. "Not when it comes to this shit, apparently," he says. "I like to think it's karma for bein' shit-hot at everythin' else." A couple of seasons has given him the strength to wave that kind of bravado around again, but there's no telepathy or truth ring needed to see that it's false.
