By the time the fire settled into a steady, comforting crackle, Marcus found himself toofar away from it to appreciate the heat he normally would have. He came out of his tent rubbing sleep from his eyes with his beddrol tucked under one arm. Coffee helped. So did the familiar motions of breaking camp, even if it was on the grass instead of the frozen tundra. He offered Taco a quiet greeting as he brushed her down, palm lingering at her shoulder.
Another long day waited ahead, but Marcus mounted with a steady breath, ready to ride it out with them.
