"I think that's a good idea," Isla says of helping Mateo at the same time. "You understand the plants he keeps in his shop better than most people. You being there will be appreciated by all of them, I bet. Maybe then they can all sail down together." Tobi and Finn on one of the skyships and Mateo in La Verbena. It might also give Ever a chance to see Stormbreak one last time, to say goodbye to the city he'd grown up in. It might not matter much or it might matter a great deal, but it's the sort of thing rooted in emotion rather than logic that is difficult to explain, so Isla doesn't try.

Instead, smiling at Ever's admission, the Remedy steps in and against him now, head resting against his chest and one arm slipping around his back. "I don't either," she admits, "but it's just for a few days, and it's important. We will be here waiting for you when you get back - right on the dock when the ship comes in. Okay?" Wordlessly she guides his hand down to rest on her belly, where the warmth of his palm is usually met with the restless kick of a little foot these days. 

"And I have some news that you can take up to share too, when you go," she adds, nodding to the envelope on the counter. "That's from the clinic, and it should confirm the baby's sex. I haven't looked yet - I thought we could open it together."
