Everest
Everest nods easily, a quiet sound of agreement humming in his throat. "Oh, absolutely," he says, the certainty in it gentle rather than emphatic. "I don’t think exhaustion is going to cancel out any of that." The firsts, the small moments she’s hinting at, all stack neatly in his mind, not overwhelming so much as strangely bright.
He hums again at her thoughts about sleeping while shifted, already filing it away as a viable solution, and then—unexpectedly—he yawns, the sound soft and almost sheepish. The tension of the day, the emotions, the planning, all seem to loosen their hold at once. He glances down at Isla with a boyish smile, presses another tender kiss to her forehead, and exhales a slow, contented sigh. "I might join you."
He doesn’t rush it. He simply stays where he is, arms settling comfortably around her, holding her close without crowding. The room grows still, the worries of falling cities and future days blurring at the edges, and with Isla warm against him and their daughter resting between them, Everest lets his eyes fall closed and drifts off to sleep.
