Grinning at the playful spatula salute as much as the image of two Dragoons cooking in the kitchen, Zavien leans closer and whispers conspiratorially, "When don't we?" His eyes flicker to the stern chef, making sure she can't see the juvenile way he elbows Koa or the smile plastered on his face.
The knife is comfortable in his hand, but the slices are uneven as he works. Whether that's from his divided concentration or lack of skill seems irrelevant, the cutting continuing regardless of the conversation. His head tilts as he answers, "It's been awhile, but I don't think I could be comfortable enough in Halo to call it home." The few visits he's made have been full of unwelcome memories, and although they will certainly fade with time, he's not sure it's a place he'd ever feel happy being.
"And I'm not sure how I would feel about living with Flora as my leader after our recent disagreement," he adds nonchalantly, his shoulders coming up in a shrug. It hadn't been enough of an argument to cut off the connection, but her response hadn't sat well with him, and serving her as a leader felt even worse, knowing how their ideals might clash.
Then there was the unknown, and his eyes narrow in concentration. "I haven't spent much time in the Grounds, but I get the sense it's not for me..." Not that he'd be against it, but he might need to spend more time there to decide if it was for him.
But the topic turns to Koa and Zavien is tensing at the mention of Kai, his breath catching. The knife work slows, nerves threading through his disciplined work as he asks tentatively, "So you've talked to him?"
