He didn’t know her that well, after all, and perhaps the bad blood between she and Maea ran deeper than he could understand. But even so…
Thalassa stood. Her voice held equal parts bitterness and relief, and Liam thought he could understand why. ”In most ways, I suppose so,” he admitted. But there were hidden scars that Thalassa could not see: the way he sometimes sat up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night after seeing Dahlia’s smug face hovering over his own; the way he triple checked his surroundings obsessively, even when he knew he was alone, just in case; the way he sought out news from outside the Greatwood, looking for any hint that the Family might return.
Forcing himself to his feet in turn and smothering a groan as he did so, Liam looked to Thalassa one last time. ”Just… know that I hold no ill will towards you. I hope you can forgive yourself, one day.”
