It is unfortunately a hazard of the shift, the butcher thinks as he misses and promptly gets got with the peck of the cockatrice. The immediate tingle sensation that blooms in his leg is something he tries to ignore as he latches onto the cockatrice’s wing and shakes his head rapidly, like a canine with a new chew toy. As the wings flare upward from the bite, Danta’s arc of fire from his scorch pelts the underbelly of the beast that’s trying to scrabble away, eventually tearing itself from the fyrhund’s teeth as it singes and shrieks some more.
Its wing is torn now, though, and it collides with the ground hard, hissing and staring up at Danta and Asta as the butcher pulls himself up, pretending like the leg that’s slowly petrifying isn’t the thing that makes him limp. Ears pinning back, the butcher’s jaw parts and a cone of flame begins to unfurl from his volcanic stone maw to aim at the cockatrice to hopefully bring it down as it turns its focus toward Danta again, running toward him with a jagged movement and more shrieks.
Asta’s bite and Danta’s scorch connect with the cockatrice, rendering it flightless and between the two ancients. It decides to try and run toward Danta this time while Asta stands back up and breathes fire at it!
