The water ahead bulges upward before breaking entirely, not with violence but with sheer, impossible scale. A massive shell rises from the sea, ridged and weathered like a drifting island, water cascading from its edges as the creature beneath it surfaces. A Tumsea.
The giant turtle moves slowly, deliberately, its ancient head lifting as it exhales a deep, rumbling breath that seems to vibrate through the air itself. Barnacles cling to its shell, and strands of seaweed trail behind it as it drifts closer, unbothered by the world around it. Its dark eyes are calm, almost gentle, as though it has seen countless shores like this one come and go.
For a while, it simply floats there, basking in the warmth of the sun and the quiet awe its presence inspires. Then, just as unhurriedly, the Tumsea begins to sink once more, its immense shell slipping beneath the surface until the sea closes over it, leaving behind only rippling water and the lingering sense that something rare and wonderful has just passed through.
