She was hyper aware of every move Zavien made, from the way his breath hitched as she squeezed by to the way he tried to avoid looking at her for more than a few seconds at a time. She understood. This was new and complicated, and he was entitled to feel the way he felt about it. That didn’t make it any easier to bear.
Soh took a breath. ”Well, my parents must have cooked me breakfast, I suppose, but they passed when I was very young, so I don’t really remember. Then my guardian taught me to cook as soon as they reasonably could, so…” Soh shrugged. Hers was not a particularly happy childhood, but she’d long since found peace with that. ”But other than that… no friends. Or exes,” she added, cutting her gaze towards him. ”I guess what I’m trying to say is… this is nice. Being… taken care of, I mean.”
