Got no plans and I've got no money
Gone are the days of milk and honey
Gone are the days of milk and honey
Kaisel tried to lighten the mood, and Soh pasted on a small smile. The conversation still didn’t sit well with her, and uneasiness crept in as she wondered how often she and Zavien would be judged so harshly. Sure, the timing was regrettable - but how long was long enough to wait before acting on one’s feelings? What was an acceptable timeline to adhere to before starting to move on from one’s grief?
Soh was under no illusions. She knew that Zavien had loved Lena, and that a part of him would always belong to her friend. She just didn’t begrudge him that piece of his heart.
Awkward now in the aftermath of her fury, Soh tried to salvage what she could of the afternoon, even though all she really wanted to do was escape. Thoughts of Jude were the furthest thing from her mind now, and she didn’t really want to accept relationship advice anyway from someone who had - unintentionally or not - wounded her in the course of learning about her new boyfriend.
So she carefully picked up her paintbrush. ”I think we’re basically required to be besties,” she said lightly. ”You can still be my almost brother-in-law. Flora’s basically my sister, so…” She dotted a few bits of color into place half-heartedly. Her heart wasn’t in it anymore, and she knew that it showed in her false brightness. Still, Kai had let it go, wishing her happiness.
So why couldn’t she just move on? Why did she still feel the bitter bite of betrayal? Kai was Flora’s husband, but perhaps she’d begun to think of him as a friend, too - so to have him react so vehemently to her news… maybe she’d overestimated their relationship. She wouldn’t make that mistake again.
