All I know is this could either break my heart or bring it back to life
Self-control was a passing fancy. Whatever restraint Soh had shown earlier was long gone now, as evidenced by the way she held herself frozen, poised somewhere between what was right and what was easy, except this just happened to be both. She wanted to honor their prior words. She really did. But it didn’t feel that simple when everything between them felt like the stars aligning.
She felt the shift in Zavien before he spoke. He straightened, and Soh lost all semblance of control over the situation, her fingers slipping from his hair as her hands cupped his face. His mouth was so close to brushing hers that she could taste him, her own lips parting almost of their own volition as he seemed to come to a decision, inviting her to tell him not to stop. A shiver of anticipation raced up her spine, and yet she still searched his face, silver eyes molten and shining. She wanted to give in. Everything in her sang at the thought, eagerly awaiting the inevitable.
And yet…
”Are you sure?” she murmured against his lips. One last chance, she thought. One last chance to stop while they still could. It felt like a momentous decision, like if they stepped off this ledge, there would be no going back - and while Soh was ready, body aching for the pleasure - and more than that, the connection - that was sure to follow, she didn’t want Zavien to regret it. To regret her. She didn’t want to be weak if he needed her to be stronger than her desire.
