// oh, tell me when you were broken //
“Ugh, Colt!” Thorn chimes, huffing a warm laugh as he works to help her get everything situated for the fencing. He does pause in time to pin her with a look that’s all drama and complaint. “It ain’t the same ‘n you know it.” He sticks his tongue out at her, adjusting the hat shortly after to keep it from falling off his head and gets to work. They work side by side with idle chatter to make the work go quicker, and before the courtesan knows it, they’re done and can eat.
Thanking Niki for the meal, Thorn settles somewhere close so he doesn’t have to walk across the field as the soreness starts to seep in, devouring his food and turning in for the night once everything’s all cleaned back up.
The morning comes and Thorn finds himself somehow even more sore, but he pushes through it and downs a coffee in record time – even without the sugar and the goodies to make it taste better than the caffeine it is – and with the help of one of the hands tacking up Tex, Thorn slips back into the saddle.
He’s close enough now to hear Niki’s instruction and admittedly exhales a sigh of relief, before falling into place closer to Colt’s side this time but granting her plenty of space – glancing across the way for the dark horse with no rider in quiet curiosity.
Thorn saddles back up and picks the side closer to Colt this time!
