Icarus flushes a bright red at the compliment, knuckles going white against where they're clutching the stabilizing ropes of the rickety bridge. "Not that impressive," He deflects, embarrassed eyes firmly on his feet below him. "I didn't think I had any other choice. I took up arms when the Ascended War came to Halo, and when the dragons attacked the Citadel..." His face turned an even darker red, if that was even possible, and cast a sidelong glance at the happy, deadly dragon. The silence that follows finishes his story on his behalf. "I want to protect my home." He finishes quietly. Under his feet, the endless mist that promises a long and painful plummet looks like smoke from a burning city.
It doesn't surprise Icarus that Deimos absolutely kicked this guy's ass upon their meeting. Not that this guy wasn't impressive -- he's sure he's an excellent fighter in his own right -- but against Deimos? He didn't think anyone in Caido stood a chance against the Warden. "He's given me a fair number of bruises myself," Icarus says with a grin, mind briefly wandering to countless hours in a training courtyard, Deimos topping him with an easy flick of his staff. Then the bridge gives a slight swing and his mind gets violently thrown back to the present.
Icarus gives a sympathetic hum. He doesn't know if he should tell the man that he should reach out, doesn't know if that's his place as Deimos subordinate. "Life is short," Is what the young soldier says instead. "There's a lot of people I wish I could have spoken to one last time." His face flushes from the accidental veering into too-real territory, and he abruptly tries to change the subject. "Where are you from?"
