Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

"Call it what you like." The alchemist replied with a shrug. Assassin, tool..there were any number of ways to pretty up what was basically just divinely-approved murder.
Listening intently, wanting naively to hear an easy parable in the Sage's words, Remi found himself unsurprisingly disappointed. "There were men drowning." The alchemist began, voice low and grave sounding. "Their ship torn apart. I don't know what is happening with my magic...but I don't think I could save them. Ludo was with me, though it...it didn't even try. It simply said their time had come, and to have them die a long and slow death would be a disservice." The corner's of Remi's lips twitched with unsaid thoughts, his eyes firmly fixed on a bit of the table that his finger kept roaming over. Drawing some errant shape as if to ease his thoughts. It wasn't working.
"There is a kindness in swift death, as a predator I can appreciate that. What I don't understand is the need for me, in all of it. Surely Ludo...Mort..death could come painlessly. When the time comes, it needn't be as it is. It seems like that is what Ludo was trying to get across, but that it made me do it feels..." His fingers balled into a fist for a moment before relaxing. "I just wish I knew what sort of pawn I am being used as."
Glancing up and exhaling a low hum, the alchemist shrugged. "Ludo told me that we are who we are remembered by. In death, we become nothing if not the bits of ourselves kept in the minds of others. I thought those lost at sea, without bodies to be buried were the most easily lost in that way."
