Fox ears twitched, but nothing came to mind, or to senses. Ivory oblivion crawled, and she wouldn’t be dissuaded, persisting, bounding, covering the fields of white in her own alabaster, pale movements. Eventually, trees rose from the plain, like gnarled hands, like knotted fingers, and she wasn’t certain if she should be afraid. Were they something else? Were they nothing at all?

But she had to pursue the object in her mind. There was nothing else but that singular ambition, and so she ducked her head, hastened through on swift paws, intending to become a piece of mist and labyrinthine fog.
