Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

Remi watched Sam turn away. Without a baseline for their friendship, Remi found the gesture hard to understand, and so he merely stayed silent and let the man be. All the while he felt conflicted and sad, like he'd done something horribly wrong and yet he couldn't quite name it and so couldn't quite fix it. Perhaps Sam was right that he had nothing to apologize for, but it certainly felt as though he did. Perhaps that was the problem. Remi was left with all the wrong feelings, and none of the right ones.
"It is though." Remi said softly, Ludo's treachery having left all of Jigano's critiques of him fully intact. Much as he might have wanted to blame Lucas for taking the mask—he was fairly certain that was the only reasonable explanation now—it was Remi who had brought it into the Rathskeller, left it unattended, and then told a stranger about it. "I lost the mask. It is my fault."
Taking a breath, Remi ran a hand unconsciously against his neck, an obvious tell for the thoughts whirling in his mind. "It is the best way to get back. We will almost surely make it home without injury if we fly." He said almost shakily as he closed his eyes for a moment. "And...it is not like you..like we have not done this before. " He added, opening his eyes to look at Sam. Part of him wanted to ask if the ascended did this knowingly. The maze was dangerous, and though it was true Remi was in a good position to be a protector, he was in an event better position to simply share his abilities. The alchemist wasn't sure if Sam was trying to recreate their first moments together—he'd already said that their first kiss and when Sam had first bitten him had been a moment intertwined—but he wasn't so sure that he wasn't, either. The bookmaker seemed to be trying towards...something, even if Remi couldn't quite say what.
"It is just strange to have these feelings forced onto you, that is all. But I will manage." Remi's pale stare lowered towards his wrist and he blinked thoughtfully. "Is...the veins in my neck are so much larger ...would it be faster to..." His voice was low, almost a whisper as he looked questioningly towards Sam.
