Thank you for finding me
And thank you for the care
Sam made no further comment on half-truths, unsure of what else to say and scared of ruining the relationship they had begun to build, which he still was not sure of the foundations of. He felt sometimes as if one misguided word could end up in the burning down of all progress they had made so far.

He was very surprised to hear the concern and panic in her voice. It had not occurred to him when he had gone out in the darkness that he would be making people worry, but even if it had Evie would not have been high on the list of suspected mourners. "...I know. It was...I felt it was important. Believe me, I knew the risks...and I got a reminder, anyway." Conscious of it still, he put his hand back in his pocket.

"No. Or at least, I don't think so. I think she will want it alive. I know if you hold them on the neck, just behind their neck, they can't bite you, so I can take it home like that and find a box." The idea of grasping a snake did make him shiver a bit, but he was much more ready to deal with it now than he would have been a year or so prior, before he'd had to live through things much worse than holding a wiggly animal. "Oh, is that one there...?"

He stopped, crouching a little and pointing before them, where a dark shape curled down from a branch, slightly in the shadows. "Do you think we should just try to grab it?"
And fuck you for making me
Think that this life might be fair
