Flora gasped as though offended, and Liam chuckled in response; her dramatic words were bright and unrepentant, and though unease uncoiled in his gut at whatever she might be plotting, he couldn’t help but admire the vivacious young queen. She continued to talk as he listened, his book forgotten, gazing at the girl with concern. She was going to get herself into trouble, but he knew enough to know that she wasn’t going to listen to him on the matter - and that it wasn’t really his place, anyway. He didn’t know her that well, and surely she had family and friends who would be on the lookout for her. Even if he didn’t really know who those people might be.
As she winked, stressing that he was an old soldier, Liam snorted. ”Gods, not that old, I hope,” he replied playfully, before he sobered. ”But, yes - if you run into trouble, I would do my best to help.” It was who he was. Damsel in distress or queen in difficulty, he was the type of person to do whatever he could to fix the problem - often to his own detriment.
But that was a consideration for another time.
”It’s funny, you didn’t strike me as the chaotic type when we met before, but now I’m starting to wonder. Your patron deity wouldn’t be Ludo, by chance, would it?” he teased, a spark in his hazel eyes.

Flora beams at the confirmation, her smile curling like sunlight through sea mist—warm, radiant, and just a little smug. "See? Knew I could count on you," she says, her voice light as she taps one manicured finger against her temple. "Strategic resource allocation. That's what I'm all about." The joke lands with an airy laugh, but her eyes linger on him a second longer than they should, thoughtful. But the sparkle dims just slightly as she glances down, then flicks her gaze back up. "Seriously though. Thanks." It's quiet, not performative, slipping out like something she hadn't meant to let linger.
A breath later, the mood shifts again—another breeze catching her sails. "No, not that old," she agrees. He was actually young for her tastes, or at least it would seem that way, given both Jack and Asta's ages.
She angles her body toward him, propping her chin in her hand. "Hah, no. Firmly Safrin, through and through." Which given the herald's fondness for Torchline perhaps wasn't so surprising even if the goddess had clashed with nearly all members of her family. "Nothing against Ludo though. One time I even channeled it up in Stormbreak to win a kite flying competition. It created this crazy big kite that soared around and cut the strings of everyone else's."

Liam wasn't sure how strategic a resource he was at present, but anything that he could do in support of ousting the Family from power was something he was willing to try. And if that meant letting Flora go about her business - her very secret, very not-dangerous business - well, then, who was he to stop her? "Any time." After all, she knew where to find him - and, if future threads were any indication, she knew who to find him with.
"Safrin's a good choice," said Liam. Though he hadn't had the pleasure of meeting the goddess personally, one didn't grow up in Stormbreak without a sense of devotion to the gods. He'd heard enough stories about Safrin to know that she took care of her own. Ludo, though... "Gods, I'd nearly forgotten about kite flying competitions," he said with a laugh. "Honestly, I'd have paid good money to see that." He considered. "Have you ever made a deal with it?" Traded in a quest for something useful, perhaps? He wasn't sure which god or herald he'd dedicate himself to yet, and it seemed prudent to gather as much information as he could about the herald he knew the least about.

Flora smirks, shaking her head lightly as if amused by the thought. "No, never," she admits, her expression a mix of amusement and slight caution. "I've always been partial to Safrin, and well, you know how jealous she can get." Her voice carries a playful lilt, but there's an underlying seriousness that hints at the complexities of divine politics. Safrin might not be the wisest choice given how things between the goddess had played out between all three of her dads, but then again, perhaps that was part of the appeal.
Leaning back, her eyes briefly flit across the room, thoughtful. "Besides, I've seen firsthand how things can go sideways with Ludo, especially considering how things played out between it and my dad."

He'd heard stories of Safrin's particular brand of jealousy - and it was one reason why he hesitated to seek her out for himself. Instead, he'd elected to appeal to Frey for his needs, and their nature aspect, at least, had been enough for him. "I see," Liam said. "Forgive me, I don't mean to press you." He offered a smile. "I'm just curious. I haven't had much experience with the gods, myself."
The conversation continued, and in spite of Liam's misgivings about Flora and her apparent vendetta against Maea, he found the queen to be good company - and someone whom he would gladly help in future, should the need ever arise.
