Nova

The best way to predict the future
is to create it.

The willow tree is much more polite than the shrub was, gliding through the ground as easily as butter. It still taxes on her, sweat forming when she trudges forward to inspect the regal display. She knows it'll be a beautiful addition to the relaxing river, the leaves blessing its occupants with shade as they float. She thanks the tree with a small shower of water to dampen its soil until the river can be filled.

Cooling herself with another breeze, Nova turns at the sound of Sunjata's voice. She dismisses her growing exhaustion, a smile forming at the chance to put her skills to use again. Ooh! Good idea!

Downing the rest of her coffee for some energy, she rushes ahead of the others, mustering her magics for one more big push. They rise in response, earth carving through to hollow out the space in a rough estimation of a large pond. Water follows quickly behind when the edges prove harsher than her mind envisions, her breeze cooling the sweat that continues to form as she works her magic until a large, elegant pool forms.

JACK

Offering a quick nod that Sunjata most likely won't see, Jack spends his time in the dragon's wake folding and tearing his empty coffee cup into the rough shape of a star (or a shuriken, depending on your preference), his magic working seemingly without his input as he trails after them. The riverbed smooths out with a mix of earth and water magic, the Captain drawing the moisture away once more when he's satisfied with the way it looks, ensuring they aren't left walking in wet mud.

Once they arrive at the flags he steps off to one side to watch Nova's command over the elements to carve out a pond, Jack raising an eyebrow as he sees her work. He's impressed, though he'll of course not say it out loud, but if an extra breeze picks up to cool her off in the meantime, well that's probably just down to luck.

"So that's that?" he asks when all is said and done, raking a hand back through his hair and rolling his shoulders as if to dismiss any creeping fatigue.

The dragon watches as Nova darts forward, claiming the end of the river to make a beautiful pool for everything to settle in. It gives him plenty of time to start smoothing out the rest of the descent down into it – maneuvering around smaller rocks and uprooting broken tree limbs. And before he knows it, he and Jack have joined the sidelines, watching Nova utilize her magic to carve out the last little space needed.

He shifts back into himself, panting a little from the exertion of the shift and how much they’d had to carve out, but it calms by the time Nova’s finished with the pond and Sunjata’s grin that spreads is one of absolute approval. “Looks great, Nova.” He hums, using a bit of his own water magic to help smooth the basin a little more so she doesn’t have to tax herself doing too much more.

To hear Jack’s question when everything’s officially done, Sunjata nods and shoots them both a grateful smile. “Yup, all done. You’re welcome to come to the House and get a hot meal and some drinks on me, but if you’ve got other places to be, I get it.” Recalling what Jack had said when they’d started this, he leaves it open ended.

And whether or not anyone joins him at the House is neither here nor there, the offer is there regardless. “Thanks for all the help.” He says before everyone makes their departure and the river is that much closer to being completed.
