Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

Saiden clung to the railing, his jaw wide as the whale breached the surface close to the Ark. As the explosion went off and rocked through the boat. He barely breathed until it became apparent that the animal was moving away from them.
However, he came to his sense at Eloise's words. He reached out with his magic as well, trying to reverse the direction of the water that caused the supplies to float away from them. Bringing them as close to the Ark as he could manage, his head whipped around as he heard a fellow crew member call out "Cap'n, we're taking on water!"
Cursing, the Hali labored to his feet. Rushing belowdecks, he found the large hole where the ocean was trying to rush in. Gritting his teeth, he pressed his magic against it, trying to stem, or at least slow, the flow until they could make repairs.
Saiden uses upgraded water magic to try and get back some of the supplies and plug the leak.
Like some child possessed, the beast howls in my veins
Well, was it over?
A multitude of things happened at once – between the gunpowder, the reeling, her legs wobbling under everything else, and only the slightest sigh of relief could unfurl from her chest as the ghost whale seemed to disappear. Vanish. Back into its fathoms and depths, leaving them shaken, but alive.
She could feel her hands trembling under the hundreds of nuances, keeping herself collected and together throughout the experience had been enough, and now she could only nod, stumbling away from Jack and back into orders. A numbing, senseless feeling, like she didn’t quite know what to do with herself, except to follow demands and commands. Except to ignore the burns across her skin. Except to soldier on, listless and lanquid.
Fangorn growled to her, and Melita lifted him up into her arms, and she didn’t have magic, didn’t have much of anything –
Except –
“Ludo,” she whispered quietly, to herself, swallowing down the works of bile stifling her breath. “Could you fix this?” The supplies? The ship?

Melita attempts to summon Ludo to help repair/snag supplies back!

Ludo sounds delighted as it soars over the side of the ship, smacking Melita gently with the trail of its rags as it flaps around the Ark. Its porcelain mask has been painted with spiky shark teeth, and it spends a moment trying to nom on the main mast of the ship before it realises she’s asked it for help.
”Oh, this? Sure!” It dives directly down into the belly of the Ark - scaring the shit out of several sailors in the process - and there’s much banging and hammering about (all for show, of course). But when it emerges again, the Ark will be bobbing happily along again. ”I think your supplies look neat in the water. You can hook them, like that game at carnivals.”
”No,” Jack begins as Melita says the ragged god’s name, and he’s just about got the elbow of his good arm under him when the thing fucking appears, and his lips part in silent awe of Ludo as it goes about its business of indecently assaulting his ship. Yeah, yeah, it’s probably helping, and it’s gone before he can really complain any more. But when has that ever stopped Jack?
Luckily, even with her ailing magical reserves, Eloise manages to recover a large portion of the supplies floating away. Saiden manages to grab the rest, but unfortunately all of his have been damaged by the water. Better off as fish food, really.
”Damn it all,” Jack growls. ”Let’s get the fuck home, ‘fore somethin’ else decides it’s hungry for a taste of us.”
