Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.

"I'm a patient man," Lucas said slowly, "and I'm not keen to make any of this public until such a point that it can't easily be denied. So it'll be a slow burn, you understand." Closing the book, he tossed it down upon the table and relaxed into his chair.
The sudden awkwardness about Adam had him intrigued, though - it spoke of leverage and the potential for perhaps another member of this clandestine little gathering. "Go on," he said, inviting the other man to explain properly.
"Okay. I mean, I'm good with some slow burn, but I don't wanna be 80 by the time this thing kicks off. How soon are you gonna be able to get stuff going?" Adam was not a patient man, in contrast to Lucas. He had always persued instant gratification and had dropped many a thread of his life because it couldn't deliver results right away. But when it was someone else's project, perhaps it wouldn't be too bad.
As long as it wasn't too long.
He didn't like the way Lucas said go on at all, could practically smell the evil intent, but he'd begun now. Adam knew he was likely doing something stupid, but perhaps he could spin it to be less bad? "Well. I have this...friend. Nate. He's an Outlander too, from some weird other place. He's kinda lost here, and he doesn't really know whats going on. But he's smart and he has a lotta medical knowledge, so maybe we could use him? I know if I asked he'd prolly consider it."
Keen, wasn't he? Lucas's smile crept across his face like a shadow, the Ascended tilting his head back to watch the dancing darkness on the ceiling from the candles. "Keep your eyes and your ears peeled. There will be another meeting of minds like this one soon - hopefully soon enough that you will not turn even a month older." He chuckled, glancing back at Adam with an arched eyebrow as if to ask whether that was good enough for him.
The mention of Nate and his medical expertise was very intriguing indeed, Lucas sitting up once more and giving the other man a quiet nod. "You only asked for protection for him," he pointed out with a wry smirk. "If you think he would be of use and that he can keep this under wraps until it is time to unveil it, bring him along. If not, I can assure you that he won't be caught up in this. Do we have an agreement?"
"Okay, I can do a month." Adam agreed, smiling at being involved in something grand enough to be called a 'meeting of minds'. He'd been in plenty of meetings before, but they'd been more of loud drunk people or genitals.
Lucas' willingness to work with him (or at least, seeming willingness) made him feel a little better. At least if Nate was going to be okay, he wouldn't have to feel guilty. He would have asked for protection for Peter, but...guy was already balls deep in a cult. There wasn't any saving him. Adam spat into his hand and held it out to Lucas. "Sure. Deal. Let's shake on it."
"Glad to hear it," Lucas said, ducking his head in a nod and stretching out his hand so that they could, indeed, shake on it. Only Adam decided to spit into his hand, and Lucas halted halfway to arch an eyebrow at the other man. "Never do that again, please," he drawled. "You shot me. Let's just pretend my walking it off was the equivalent of our shaking on it, yes?"
Giving no room for argument (because he was not shaking a hand coated in saliva), Lucas rose to his feet to walk Adam to the door in a polite gesture that pointedly said 'get out of my house'. "I'll be in touch soon," he said.
"Oh, uh, sure." Adam wiped his hand off on his pants, though privately thought Lucas was being a bit of a princess. Back where he came from, it was the way all criminal sorts agreed on their deals (or if they were a little more hardcore, with blood. But Adam was not about to scar his skin for one shitty handshake.
It seemed he was being escorted out, which was a bit of a surprise (he had hoped this would lead to some sexy-post-government-establishing-banging) but there was always a bar to go to or another set of arms to fall into. With a mock salute, he turned and left out of the door. "See ya later, 'boss'."
