Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

Her nose wrinkled at the sight. She hadn't been to the Rainbow Road before, but Thal was quite certain it wasn't supposed to look like this. Random puddles of discolored liquid mingled amongst the water, sticky and viscous. She couldn't identify the sickly scent that occupied the space, somewhere between a rotten egg and moldy syrup. The smell was only disguised by the occasional spray of the geysers, showering the area in fresh salt water. But the revealing of rainbows didn't hide the piles of garbage and refuse.
Thal used the side of her hood to create a barrier between her nose and the smell as she walked across the stone, gingerly avoiding the suspicious sections on nimble feet. As she stepped around one part, she came upon a bottle that sparkled in the sunlight. Kneeling down, she picked up the green glass, peering through the container at the sun shining through. The dregs of something lay within, causing her to sniff the contents cautiously. Luckily, she recognized it as liquor. Not wanting to let it go to waste, Thal downed the last swig, letting the cheap substance coat her throat.
You have so much of everything but still you wanted more
"Oh wow, you are brave to drink that!" The voice was warm as the sunlight and full of laughter, the giddy kind that teetered on the brink between delighted and scandalized. It belonged to a woman as dark-haired and ocean eyed as the captain, of an age with her if appearances was anything to judge by - though that was also where their similarities ended.
Picking her way across the sodden remnants of shipwrecks and LongNight beach parties washed ashore a little too far from Haulani for anyone official to care, Seren approached the girl with a bright smile lighting up her face. "Hello. Would you mind terribly if I joined you? If you do, just say the word and I will go somewhere else."
Shadowing her footsteps was a dragon, companion-sized if on the larger side; tall as a great dane at the shoulders, Umbra's normally midnight-blue scales took on a myriad of hues in the light of the sun, glistening and rippling like the ocean. He focused skeptically on the horned, tailed woman but remained a step behind his bonded, wings half-spread and shading a significant piece of ground - as always ready to leap in should anything or anyone try to harm the starchild.
Lowering the bottle, she looked to the voice. Its playful nature immediately produced a scowl to Thal's face, contrasting their mirror features. She licked her lips and fangs dramatically, a vicious smile appearing. "Not much scares me, especially where alcohol is concerned." The familiar scent had been more than enough evidence for her to empty the bottle, but the liquid hadn't been nearly enough to mask the overwhelming stench of trash littering the pathway. Her nose wrinkled at the thought and she glanced around at the pitiful sight with disgust. "I just wish there was more." Sadly, most of the remaining liquor was coating the ground in a golden reflection.
The woman's question had Thal scoffing as she stepped to kick a nearby piece of garbage out of the way. "I don't own the place. Do what you want." As long as 'joining her' didn't involve small talk, Thal couldn't care less. She'd take her time exploring the area, maybe clearing out some of the nastiness along the way. If it wasn't coated in water, she'd probable just burn the refuse away and be done with the stench. Instead, she tossed the now-empty bottle off to the side, looking for her next object of interest. The dragon was of vague interest, but she kept her attention elsewhere, not fazed by its presence.
