Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

How much would running through fire really hurt? As long as she wasn't standing in it for long, surely she could make her way through...? Ahh, but was it really worth singeing her hair and her clothes, just for the promise of a bit more power (if presumably, that's what the orb held)? Insert kombucha girl gif here. Ultimately deciding it would be unwise, especially with Lena flying over the flames only to appear on the other side, Flora huffs with annoyance as she glances around.
Sending her Tide Jaguar in after Lena, Flora hoped that maybe she could spook the caretaker enough for either she or Melita to snag the orb away from her.
Flora sends her jaguar into the fire after Lena, hoping to scare her into dropping the orb so she or Melita can get it!

And now I'm covered in you
Thal flinched as she watched the arrow lodge in Maea's side. She didn't think her partner would be much help after that, so she had to make a decision: give up the chase to help Maea or do it herself? And being the ever-greedy person she was, it wasn't even a debate.
Sprinting past Maea and the other beasts, Thal tried to weave closer to the orb. In an attempt to discourage others, and slightly help Maea, she pushed her flames thick and wide, letting it consume everything within her range. And as its heat spread, she stepped into the fire herself, lunging for the treasure.
Thalassa spreads her fire as far and deep as possible to encompass everything (hoping to prevent others from getting close and protect Maea) then runs through it to go after the orb herself.
Fire Manipulation: Can manipulate flames. Must be within a 30ft radius. Control is excellent

The chaos seemed to be heightening and Zavien's attention was finally drawn back to it as Lena gave him that small smile. He watched in awe as she shifted back to a colorful bird and went towards the flames. Uncertain whether he should be trying to help her, he took a shifting step forward. Yet, he couldn't see much through the wall of fire. What was he supposed to do to help?
While his mind was about to deep fry with too much brain power and too much heat, Zavien was reminded of his fetch companion as the stick landed at his feet. Although the beast decided that the rock was more interesting, he smiled fondly. It really was just a big dog - that could probably trample him just as easily as it could wag its tail. With that in mind, Zavien picked the stick back up, feeling the grooves of teeth marks, and waved it again. "C'mon, buddy! One more time! It'll be fun!" He waited to see if the creature was watching before throwing it into the fray.
As the stick flew away into the flames, Zavien noticed the sparkling sand and was reminded of Frey's task for him. Perking up, he grabbed a bag from within his travel bag and filled it with some of the soft white sand then straightened to watch the results of his game. But now, he didn't care as much about the end, a sense of 'Mission Achieved!' filling his chest and giving him a reason to be happy no matter the outcome.
Zavien continues to play catch with his big burly bone buddy but chooses to throw the stick into the chaos this time. (Oh boy. And now he's playing in the sand too.)

You have power over your mind - not outside events.
Things had really devolved as her eyes followed the chaos. Attacks had landed and more were being volleyed. Where were those arrows coming from anyways? Were they magic? Or was the attacker invisible?
A nearby shout was enough to make her look over at the man again. He appeared to recognize the lone woman, but even as she acknowledged him and launched into the air as a bird, he still seemed more interested in playing. First with the shifting bones and then in the sand. Wasn't he concerned for the woman at all? Didn't he want to help her? Elizabeth determined that she did not understand men as well as she thought she did.
Before she knew it, her vision was being obscured by all-encompassing fire. Elizabeth strained her eyes, still able to see shadows and figures between the tendrils of flames. With all the alliances and flying nonsense, she watched carefully to see who came out on top.
Does Elizabeth even know how these things work? Elizabeth continues tracking everyone, trying to see who comes out with the orb.

Pain. Exploding into her striped shoulder, the impact of the arrow staggered the tiger and brought her charge to a dead stop. Electricity coarsedthrough her body and caused her to spasmviolently until the current died away. Twisting around shallow gasps to look at the shaft protruding from her flesh in disbelief, Maea tried reach it with her jaws to pull it out but realized it wouldn't work. Faintly aware of Thalassa disappearing off to chase the orb, her own attention had shrunk to the unrelenting point of agony that remained while she shifted, turning legs to arms and claws to fingers that scrabbled for a hold on the arrow and pulled, biting back a scream as she attempted to dislodge it. Black and white lights danced before her eyes, a dull thrumming rose in the ears and for a while it felt like she was only doing herself harm instead of good.
And no one came to help. No one did anything at all.
As the pain mounted, so did her anger, and so too did power. Black overtook her eyes and in unthinking rage she lashed out at anyone within range, who either stepped on her to get ahead or had the audacity to stand around and do nothing when she was hurting like this. Perhaps a kinder person would have it in them to understand and forgive - but all evidence pointed out that Maea was only nice, not kind. She didn't want to understand.
Maea attempts to pull the arrow from her shoulder. She uses Melita's arrow to trigger Mastered BloodBane on anyone within range.
Magic: Bloodbane | Can injure themselves for mastered damage to weaken others at a 1.5x their mastered level with a range of 30ft.

As soon as Lena clears the fire and shifts back into herself, it all should have been over. With her magic singing into the voice of the creature it willingly gives over the orb and as soon as it touches the caretaker's fingers, it explodes in a warm rush of energy that immediately sinks within, filling and expanding.
It should have ended there, but it doesn't.
Another of Melita 's arrows lets loose, finding its target in Maea. As Thalassa runs forward Maea 's bloodbane is already at work, sucking the life from her body and nearly taking the pirate captain with her. It'll force the pirate's flames to die down so that Zavien and Elizabeth have a clear view of what has just transpired, even though most of it happened quite suddenly.
Lena, the winner.
Thalassa, likely doubled over with her life ebbing out onto the sand, torn away by unseen fingertips.
Maea, lifeless.
Flora and Melita, invisible.
Zavien, the mirth of his game of fetch likely at an end.
Elizabeth, pen in hand, though quite what she's going to record of this is anyone's guess.
Lena has been given a leopard cat shift for winning the drop!
Maea has...died x.x
Maea HP: 0/270 (killed by Maea for the purposes of levelling...?)
Thalassa HP: 10/54
Tide Jaguar HP: 373/407
Going to finish this thread, but feel free to post another to deal with the IC ramifications!
