Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

the sun inside of her rages like wildfire and she is gold, gold, gold
Infinitely pleased by the distraction her sister offers by means of colorful fish and the glittery path left behind from a starknight swordfish, Calypso finds that despite having to do some hard work, it hasn’t been all bad. So she doesn’t mind so much when the work is done down here, the scraped off barnacles falling down to the ocean floor allowing for her to rise back to the surface, brushing her wet blonde hair back from her face like a siren in the water.
Climbing back onto the deck and dripping amongst the rest, Caly waits for Nova to join her before Jack’s instructing them again. Her mind swims with more golden watercolor, streaked with orange as she mentally makes a note of their father’s tone. She does, in fact, want to see the ship go up. She doesn’t necessarily need to be reminded to make herself useful. And it’s with that small touch of annoyance that the young attuned flashes a too sweet, saccharine smile, before she reaches out to squeeze Nova’s hand, immediately snagging some rope with some help from the crew to start to tie things down. She isn’t very strong herself, either, but she does her best to work and flirt with those helping her to make sure whatever they tie down, isn’t going to go anywhere.
Caly definitely wants to see everything so she’s snagged some helpers to make sure the barrels are tethered down well enough they won’t move!
Emerging from the water like a rainbow firework, Nova climbs back aboard the Ark, humming a happy tune from all the fun sights. Spotting Vesper nearby, she even takes a moment to emphatically describe the glowing path of the StarKnight Swordfish, water splashing from her hand movements. She could have kept talking about it all afternoon, but then they're being directed (ordered) again and her brother looks like he has to do some real man's work. Flashing him an excited smile, she goes to join Caly. "I'll tell you more about it later!"
She squeezes her sister's hand back before skipping around to find some ropes to tie. Her focus is of course on her earlier molotovs, quite concerned that the departure might disrupt their delicate nature. During the search, she chatters on about how exciting it will be to fly. "Caly! This is going to be so fun! Do you think we'll see anything cool? Do you think it will look the same as when we were with mom? Do you -" The questions continue in a stream of consciousness as she secures the crate and moves on to direct some of the crew to any loose items she finds.
Nova helps make sure the molotovs are secure and helps find things to tie down.
Vesper hoists (with all his 8 might), Calypso and Nova help to bind things down, and the crew swarm into position as Jack heads for the helm, the captain letting out a short, shrill whistle (and receiving a few in return) to signify that they are ready to go. The gangplank is drawn away, The Ark pulls up anchor and, now that the main sail has been replaced, the men around Vesper manipulate the rigging to open her in full.
In a scatter of starlight and with the ruddy red colour a marked contrast against the deep blue sky, Jack flies them up into the air until they can catch a warm thermal to coast on, just as they would on some calm sea. Leaving the wheel to his second, the captain heads back down to the deck once things are steady, gesturing for the three Marin siblings to join him at the side of the ship. "Ain't much you can do for these last checks- I doubt any of you know how to fly a skyship. So enjoy your joyride - unless you really want to put yourselves out there."
Leaving them to it, the captain goes to join his crew in inspecting the integrity of the ship now that she's airborne - a feat involving rope and harnesses and dangling over the side of The Ark to caulk and check and sand her hull.
Last round! You can enjoy the joyride, but if you want to be impressive overachievers, get into a harness and help check The Ark's hull!

Noticing the gangplank coming up and the rush of whistles and movement, Nova immediately ceasing her task to lean against the railing. Her eyes glitter while her mind races to take in the activity and changing surroundings. She doesn't want to miss a single thing.
Jack's interruption of her observations earns him a small pout. Just because she doesn't know how to fly the ship doesn't mean she can't learn. If anything, that sounds pretty exciting to her. Maybe she'll have to find a way to persuade him later. However, her disappointment doesn't last long before she notices some of the crew gearing up, preparing to dangle outside the ship.
Nova grabs her sister's hand, jumping in anticipation. "Oh! Caly! We have to do it! Come on!" Whether her sister joins her or not, Nova quickly finds herself snug in a harness, climbing over the edge of the ship into the open air. Her hair whips in the rushing winds, taking her whooping laugh with it. She doesn't mind pretending to do a little bit of work while she's at it, sanding the same small area of the hull as she takes in the sights, shouting out to her siblings about anything that catches her eye.
Nova takes the once in a lifetime chance to be harnessed on the edge of a flying ship!
Feeling the downcast of his sister's disappointment like a raincloud threatening to pour, Vesper strolls over toward Nova, pulling one hand from his pocket and trickling it lightly over her shoulders as he passes behind her. Not stopping, he nevertheless glances back at her, tipping her an affectionate wink before going to stand by the railing.
That the demigod could fly a ship so long as there were enough crew around him who knew how to do it wasn't a skill he needed to flex just now, and having no real interest in brown-nosing his way into Jack's good books (why go through the effort when he could just grease his old man's palm?), Vesper contended himself with watching the efforts of his siblings and the rest of the crew. Drawing a playing card from his back pocket, the boy traded it between his palms, making it disappear and then reappear all while his icy gaze remained locked on the actions of his sisters.
Vesper hangs out.

the sun inside of her rages like wildfire and she is gold, gold, gold
Things are tied down precisely at the perfect time that the gangplank is drawn up and things really start picking up. It happens fast, a flutter in her stomach as the ship begins to rise, eliciting a bright giggle to fall from her lips, her grin aimed at Nova briefly before Jack’s instructions come again.
She does not know how to fly a ship. She does know that she enjoys thrills and joyrides, as it were. Though this is her first one.
Sidling up beside her sister, she watches as Vesper approaches and tries to soothe the pout she can also feel in the air. But then, as the harnesses appear and the rain clouds become sunshine yet again, Calypso’s beaming alongside her siblings in complete agreement.
She suits up quickly with more bright laughter and sunshine thoughts, splashing against the rainbow of Nova’s as she flashes a beaming smile to Vesper and a playful salute before she dives over the side. She immediately shouts all of her findings back toward her siblings, before she continues to scout the hull for anything of note.
Calypso checks the hull and scouts for anything of note and VERY much enjoys the view !
And so it goes. Calypso and Nova will find their afternoon filled with breezy warmth and raucous laughter, for it goes without saying that the crew who also take up the harnesses must have had a bit of a wild streak to begin with. The hull is checked, freshly caulked in places where it might be a little more watertight, and dried out well before they need to land. And Vesper will find himself unmolested as he hangs out on the deck, apart from to be offered some surprisingly good quality rum for his assistance with the sail.
As for Jack, he doesn't make himself scarce so much as he's genuinely busy doing all the things that being a captain entails. By the time the Marin siblings spot him freely walking on deck again, the sky will be painted in the pink shades of sunset, and he's headed for the helm to take them back into harbour.
That he doesn't immediately tell them to leave when they land is evidence enough of a hard day's work. Something to be proud of, to be sure.
THANK YOUU <3 WE'RE ALL DONE!
